Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Casino Royale) have been hired to write the remake of Barbarella for producers Dino and Martha De Laurentiis. Variety notes De Laurentiis recently completed a film rights acquisition deal with Julien Forest, the son of Jean-Claude Forest, author of the French comicbook series on which the film was based. Deal, made with Hollywood Comics principal Jean-Marc Lofficier and French agent Laurie Roy, calls for the reissue of the first two Barbarella books in concert with the feature, along with the publication of material that previously hadn’t been translated into English....

CBS All Access has dramatically overhauled their children’s programming with a new expansion of Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. content. New kids programming added to the service includes nearly 800 episodes of Nick Jr. favorites like PAW Patrol, Blaze and the Monster Machines, Blue’s Clues, Bubble Guppies, Dora the Explorer, and Shimmer and Shine. If that wasn’t enough, CBS All Access has announced a few new features that will make it easier for kids to access the new content without parents having to worry about running into adult content....

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have narrowed the field for the Best Documentary Oscar this year, and two notable titles were left off the list. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Academy has revealed the list of its 15 documentaries that will compete for the Best Documentary Oscar, down from 89 that were originally submitted. 2K, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., announced that Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer, a new third-person action video game featuring Marvel Entertainment’s legendary super-powered foursome, is now available. Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer was developed by 2K’s Visual Concepts studio for PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. 7 Studios developed the title for PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, Nintendo’s Wii and Nintendo DS....

You can get a new slew of action films on 1080p from Warner Bros. this September. Eraser, Outbreak, Under Siege 2, Every Which Way But Loose and Gauntlet will all be released on Blu-Ray on September 2. No cover art or special features details have been released, but each film will be available for $28.99 SRP. Eraser Arnold Schwarzenegger (The Terminator, Total Recall, Conan the Barbarian, True Lies, Collateral Damage) stars as Eraser, an elite federal marshal who “erases” the pasts of jeopardized informers and relocates them into safe anonymity....

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Alfred Gough and Miles Miller, the creators of Smallville and The Shanara Chronicles, walked us through the set design of their latest show, Wednesday. The show concerns the titular Addams family member at boarding school. Tim Burton, who directed four of the season’s eight episodes, lent his own visual style to the series. Allison Janney is hitting a comic doubleheader, landing roles in Sam Mendes’ tentatively titled This Must Be the Place for Focus Features and the Eddie Murphy vehicle A Thousand Words for DreamWorks. According to The Hollywood Reporter, in Brian Robbins’ A Thousand Words, Janney plays Murphy’s boss, a savvy, money-grubbing head of a literary agency. Murphy plays a man who discovers he only has a thousand words left to say before he dies....

Invitation To A Bonfire is an upcoming six-episode series from AMC, marking Tatiana Maslany’s return to the network after her performance in Orphan Black. The psychological thriller is based on a best-selling novel and includes stars from the MCU, Game of Thrones, Law & Order, and more. The series is part of AMC’s larger movement to develop new, original content exclusive to their streaming service. Invitation To A Bonfire is part of a larger scripts-to-series model that will launch on the network and AMC+ in 2023....

Months after the release of Elvis in theaters, director Baz Luhrmann continues to tease a four-hour extended cut. As it stands, Elvis is a fairly lengthy film, clocking in at 159 minutes. But trimming the theatrical cut down to that running time meant leaving hours of Austin Butler’s concert footage on the cutting room floor. While that was necessary for a theatrical release, Luhrmann apparently cannot stop thinking about a longer version of Elvis that would restore these full concerts, allowing fans to enjoy complete performances of Butler channeling the King of Rock ’n Roll....

When Lord Carnarvon, who had funded Carter’s expedition died in Cairo shortly after, Sherlock Holmes author Arthur Conan Doyle remarked that, “An evil elemental may have caused Lord Carnarvon’s fatal illness,” essentially inventing the idea of the mummy’s curse....
