People often describe that their biggest regrets in life include not being true to themselves, denying and allowing opportunities to seek out happiness to come their way, not expressing their feelings, and not keeping the friendships that mattered the most to them. Movies, television, literature, and theater have done quite a bit of the heavy work when exploring what the afterlife could mean to an individual, whether it is in the vein of the now-classic Beetlejuice or a tragic drama like The Lovely Bones....

A first look into the Book Club sequel premiered Monday with Focus Pictures releasing the film’s first official trailer. The trailer begins with the opening statement, “Life is like a novel. You never know what the next chapter will bring,” as our beloved book club members reunite for a surprise engagement announcement....

Author Helen Fielding, who wrote the books that the hit movies Bridget Jones’s Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason were based on, confirmed that she is writing a third Bridget Jones book. There are also plans for a movie sequel in the works. Helen Fielding read three pages of her in-progress novel at a London event a few days ago, and revealed she will be working on the forthcoming movie as well....

Lakeshore and MGM have signed on Debbie Allen, Charles S. Dutton, Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally and Bebe Neuwirth to appear as instructors and supervisors in the upcoming Fame remake. According to Variety, Kevin Tancharoen is directing the remake of the 1980 musical, which will follow dancers, singers, actors and artists from auditions to graduation at the New York City High School of Performing Arts. Mullally’s a graduate of the School of American Ballet and will portray a voice instructor; Grammer, who attended Juilliard, will play an orchestra maestro; Dutton, a graduate of Yale School of Drama, will portray an acting teacher; Neuwirth, a Tony winner, will play a dance instructor....

ABC continues its commitment to world-class storytelling and new creative voices with the announcement of its 2014-15 slate of programming, including the addition of 12 new series. Warner Bros. Digital Distribution (WBDD) today announced the first-ever “social series” from a Hollywood studio will debut on Facebook starting October 18. Consumers can now become part of the show by seamlessly integrating their profile information - including photos, text and friends - by simply opting into the application on the show’s Facebook page. The Black Canary is coming to Smallville, and now we know who will be playing her. Executive producer Al Gough confirms for TV Guide.com that Canadian actress Alaina Huffman (Painkiller Jane) will wear the fishnets of the Black Canary when she makes her first appearance on the CW series. The episode, titled “Siren” also marks the return of Justin Hartley in his role as Oliver Queen/The Green Arrow. In DC Comics, the two vigilantes have a long and complex romantic history....

Aubrey Plaza made her mark in television when she starred as April Ludgate in NBC’s sitcom Parks and Recreation. Aubrey Plaza’s commitment to her Dirty Grandpa character freaked out Robert De Niro. During a London Film Festival ScreenTalk session hosted by Leigh Singer for Emily the Criminal (which Plaza stars in and produces), Plaza reflected on her initial interactions with the Hollywood legend. Prestige TV miniseries seem to be the new golden goose of streaming as it feels like every service is producing multiple series per month. It’s an appealing draw — creators can develop characters and stories longer than within the confines of a feature length film, big name actors are more inclined to sign on to something with a limited life span (so they won’t be stuck playing the same character for eight years), and studios don’t have to worry about the box office....

Paramount+ is still coming into its own as a streaming platform, and as such is not releasing too much original content. Though the service has some flagship TV series (like The Good Fight and the excellent Evil) and new masterpieces (such as Players), it’s still slim pickings, and their selection of original movies leaves much to be desired. However, the streamer has the benefit of a massive back-catalog of films from Paramount Pictures, and that’s where it really excels, bringing basically all the older movies that don’t belong to Warner Bros....
