Actor Paul Rudd has recently divulged the excruciating hardships he experienced while gearing up to reprise his role as Ant-Man in the newest Marvel installment Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The film is the third in the Marvel Ant-Man franchise and is a follow-up to the 2018 film, Ant-Man and the Wasp. The last movie centered on Scott Lang (aka Ant-Man, played by Paul Rudd) as he juggles his roles as a superhero and a father when suddenly Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present him with an important assignment, which sees Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to unearth mysteries from their past. In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Ant-Man returns with the Wasp as they discover themselves navigating the Quantum Realm, encountering strange new beings, and going on a journey that tests their preconceived notions of reality.

Speaking to Men’s Health, Paul Rudd said his workout routine was more intensive and draining than when he played Ant-Man in 2018. He added, “I worked really hard to get back into shape for Quantumania, and I realized, ‘Oh, my God, this is so much harder than it was [for Ant-Man and the Wasp], “I had fallen off more than I had in the past. All of a sudden, my clothes fit tight. And I thought, ‘God, this sucks. I can’t even wear these pants. So I’d say to myself, ‘Well, I might as well just eat some of these cookies.’ I was irritable and self-conscious. I just wasn’t in a good mood. I really beat myself up.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on Feb. 17.

Paul Rudd Jokes That Joining Marvel Was Like Doing Dancing With the Stars

     Marvel Studios

During another conversation with Men’s Health Magazine, actor and Ant-Man star Paul Rudd discussed what it was like when he joined the MCU. He told the magazine that “…my agent set up a meeting with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. Marvel was pretty new. They weren’t even part of Disney. It would’ve been like somebody saying, “How would you feel about doing Dancing with the Stars? A superhero franchise was never on my radar. I never really thought I was the type of actor they would offer any of those parts to.”

In addition to his leading role in the Ant-Man franchise, Rudd has recently filmed episodes for the popular Hulu series Only Murders in the Building.
