In a report from Deadline, several cast members were announced for the upcoming anime film, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. The movie will star Brian Cox, recently known for his role in the HBO Max series Succession. Cox will play Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan, who appears in the appendices of J.R.R. Tolkien’s books and is the anime’s main protagonist. The film is set 183 years before the events of Peter Jackson’s trilogy, and the latest concept art can be found below.

The anime feature film, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, details “a sudden attack by Wulf, a ruthless Dunlending lord who seeks vengeance for his father’s death. This forces Helm and his people to make a last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg, a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep,” reads a line from the movie’s description. Miranda Otto, who previously starred in Jackson’s film series as Eowyn, Shieldmaiden of Rohan, will reprise her role and act as the story’s narrator.
