Be warned, SPOILERS for Hawkeye to follow.
Daredevil star Vincent D’Onofrio has backed the idea of The Kingpin becoming the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next big bad. The hulking supervillain made his triumphant return during the events of the Disney+ series Hawkeye, before potentially leaving again courtesy of a bullet fired by his former protégé and niece, Echo. But, the actor tells The Toronto Sun that, should Wilson Fisk survive, D’Onofrio sees no reason why he could not become a major that to the whole of the MCU.
Rumors of D’Onofrio’s return as The Kingpin have been circulating for some time, and while the actor had denied any involvement in the Disney+ outing, he did indeed white-suit up once again in order to terrorize hero pair Clint Barton and Kate Bishop. But, to the chagrin of fans everywhere, Hawkeye seemingly erased Kingpin as quickly and as suddenly as it brought him back thanks to a revenge-fueled Echo.
“I’ve never thought about it in those terms before. I guess that’s up to Marvel and Kevin and the writers. Do I think he’s capable of being the guy that’s behind everything? In my mind, he always was … I don’t think we’ve begun to explore how interesting Fisk is.”

Vincent D’Onofrio though is hopeful that that is not the end of the Marvel road for him, having already expressed his desire to come back for more adventures beyond Hawkeye. “I hope he didn’t die… I’m with the fans, I want to keep playing this part. My hope is that we continue,” he said, before claiming that he is none-the-wiser regarding the character’s resurrection. “I know as much as you do. I can only hope that I get to continue to explore the different facets of this guy. I just love playing him so much.”
Should The Kingpin survive that bullet (which, let’s face it, is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility considering the punishment he endures in Hawkeye), setting him up as the big bad for the small screen Disney+ slate would work perfectly, as well as being a worthy return for D’Onofrio’s much-celebrated work as the Marvel villain.
For now, Marvel and Daredevil fans can enjoy The Kingpin’s comeback courtesy of Hawkeye. The most recent Disney+ series takes Marvel fans on an unexpected holiday getaway, picking up in a post-blip New York City, former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. While this should be more than possible for the man who fought alongside the likes of Thor and Iron Man, it proves more difficult than first thought, with Barton needing the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The pair are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.
Starring Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld as Clint Barton and Kate Bishop respectively, Hawkeye also stars Vera Farmiga, Tony Dalton, Zahn McClarnon, and Brian d’Arcy James, Fra Fee, and Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez AKA Echo, a deaf superhero who can perfectly copy another person’s movements and who will soon become the subject of her own spin-off Disney+ series. Surely, at the very least, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk will have a role to play in that.
Hawkeye is available now on Disney+.
